Not this Harold, or this Harold, or even this other Harold, but THIS Haroldis gay. Who knew? In their latest adventure, Captain Underpants and the Sensational Saga of Sir Stinks-a-Lot, Harold and George journey twenty years into the future to meet their grown selves–George has a nice wife and two children, while Harold has a nice husband along with two kids. At least, I think this is how it goes; there are three sets of Harold and George in this entry and I would be at a deficit to tell you which one was which at any given moment. (I have never been able to pursue a Captain Underpants book successfully from start to finish.)

Good for him. I don’t know if this means Harold is gay now (the picture on the left is fan art, not from Dav Pilkey’s hand) or if he just goes gay later, but I’m reminded of a conversation I had with Jacqueline Woodson years ago about what we called “pre-gay” characters, that is, unreal children one could visualize growing into homosexual or lesbian adults (pretty much everybody in Harriet the Spy, for example, and Jackie cited the girls in her own House Yo

Harold Gay

LANCASTER, SC~Mr. James Harold Gay, age 87, of Lancaster met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 MUSC-Lancaster. He was born on Parade 12, 1934 in Heath Springs, a son of the late John Henry Gay and Sallie Hendrix Gay Hughes and was the husband of his loving wife Glenda Seegars Gay.

He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church where he was maintenance chairman for many years and was in attack of redesigning the sanctuary and building the new sound booth. He loved his church and church family. He was a member of Jackson Lodge no. 53 where he served as secretary for many years. He held many offices in the local lodge as well as the Grand Lodge. He proudly served in the Merged States Navy for four years where he served in the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 26 and a half years, Glenda Seegars Gay; three daughters, Janet G. Edwards, Cathy G. Smith (Gary), both of Lancaster, Cynthia G. Williams of Charleston.
