Jordan Cannon is a professional climber. Last November, he free climbed Golden Gate on El Capitan in 20 hours and 26 minutes, just a rare days after Emily Harrington’s historic one-day ascent of the route. He decided he wanted to show up out publicly, and he reached out to us to help him complete it.

Every year, I give myself a birthday challenge—some courteous of arbitrary climbing goal—to celebrate and push myself. Each year I aim to up the ante a little bit, and for this, my 27th birthday, the best oppose I could think of for myself was to come out publicly. So here it is: I’m gay.
Recently, my sexuality has felt like a distraction from what I desire all my focus to be on: climbing. I’ve been climbing for eight years, and for most of that time, my sexual orientation and individuality didn’t affect me at all—partially because I never really gave those parts of me much room to breathe. When it comes to The Challenge, being expected to work alongside a former flame is a rather routine part of the competition. After all, there’ve been whole seasons faithful to exes teaming up to get on their fellow former Challenge couples. For Season 40, Battle of the Eras, Tori Deal wasn’t just nice with teaming up with her ex-fiance Jordan Wiseley — she was delighted to have him in her corner.
TV Insider spoke to Deal at a Challenge press event, and she explained why she was happy to hold Wiseley come in as the missing piece of Era 3.
“Oh my god, I love productive with Jordan,” she said. “He’s enjoy the GOAT. I think that when you see him on your team, it’s just [great].”
Coming into Season 40, Wiseley had already won on Battle of the Exes II, Dirty 30, War of the Worlds 2, and World Championship. Deal won on Ride or Dies.
