The Gay Community Center of Richmond

The Homosexual Community Center of Richmond is a 47,000 square foot Community Center located in Richmond's Northside for the operate of Central Virginia's LGBT community and supportive agencies and groups. We provide meeting space, classroom and event cosmos at little or no cost to community groups and non-profit organizations. We are the residence of the GCCR Gallery, which is the first gallery in Virginia committed to showcasing LGBT artists and those who portray our community in a positive light. Since GCCR began society center operations in 2008, more than forty community groups have held programs attracting thousands of participants.

The Richmond Lgbtq+ Community Foundation was founded in 1999 to provide sustain for the agencies and groups that serve Central Virginia's sexual and gender minority people, and to educate the public about the many issues facing our community. Diversity Thrift opened the following year. here are some general thoughts in regards to your questions.

------I visited URichmond earlier this summer and absolutely loved the campus, but the more and more I read about the school slowly made it move so far down my list I wasn’t even sure if I’d still apply.

*APPLY!!! It’s so terrific here, and it really is a nice campus and environment, and you will almost absolutely get financial aid and it is wonderful

------They have my majors, have a beautiful campus, and I’m sure everyone is very agreeable, but I’m wondering what it’s appreciate on campus for an LGBT, extremely liberal kid.

*Okay, so honestly everyone IS very nice. Most everyone comes from the Northeast so while maybe lots of folks are conservative, they all grew up with gay friends, so everyone is incredibly accommodating. I don’t think being homosexual is an issue. There’s also a ton of liberals here. Maybe not Bernie level liberal, but definitely Hillary loving liberals. A Look at Richmond’s History

The history of Richmond is a long one – in reality, Richmond is one of America’s oldest cities. Patrick Henry, a U.S. Founding Father, famously declared “Give me liberty or donate me death” in Richmond at St. John's Church in 1775, a proclamation which eventually led to the Revolutionary War. Richmond also played a central role in the Civil War, serving as the capital of the Confederacy, and the location of the Confederate White House, where Confederate President Jefferson Davis resided. Despite its deep roots and Civil War history, however, today, Richmond has grown into a vibrant, diverse, and forward-thinking town that is welcoming to all. It’s home to a wealthy arts and culture scene, many businesses and universities, and plenty to see and do for all.
