WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Five years ago to the date, H.G. Rooster's caught fire and had to close its doors. Since then, the city of West Palm Beach granted the exclude a historic designation, naming it the oldest gay block in the Sunshine State.
The bar is now officially re-open for business and for the patrons who have been waiting half a decade, it couldn’t come sooner.

“We couldn't linger for it to return,” said Michael Ceruzzi. “Because it's very hard to survive with just one gay lock in West Palm Beach.”
“We've been waiting a long hour for this to happen,” said Lee Edmondson. "We've had so many things throw us endorse every time we were making progress with it. This is our home."
Co-owners A.J. Wassom and Randy Christensen express a part of them was defeated when the block caught fire. Blaze investigators ruled the blaze to be an accident after they said a range of chemicals suddenly ignited.

Historic gay bar Roosters reopens in West Palm Beach 5 years after fire
H.G. Roosters, West Palm Beach’s iconic gay bar, has reopened five years after being destroyed by a fire during the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Longtime patrons and politicos crowded into the 80-year-old stone façade building on Belvedere Road on May 19 to hail the restoration of an integral piece of Palm Beach County’s history.
In honor of its reopening, the Historical Society of Palm Beach County will be hosting a presentation next month on the bar’s role in the county’s LGBTQ community.
In the meantime, here are five things to know about Roosters:
1. It boasts the title of Florida’s longest running queer bar
When H.G. Roosters opened in 1984, Palm Beach County was populated with several other gay bars, which served a key role as community centers at a time when homosexuality was less widely accepted. Now, as Roosters owner A.J. Wasson told The Palm Beach Publish in 2020, those first bars are gone. (Several newer gay bars run throughout the area).
